Carine Chivas, LNE France, presented lab-scale simulation of incineration of different polymers containing MWCNTs (multi walled carbon nano tubes), indicating that the presence of carbon nanotubes increased the release of ultrafine particles in incineration of thermoplastic polymers but not of thermoset polymers tested.
The presence of carbon nanotubes also increased the release of small tar particles in incineration. The nanotubes were not detectable in smoke.
