DuPont Performance Materials has published a 16 page guide to non-halogenated flame retardant (NHFR) polymers for electrical and electronics (E&E) applications. The stated objective is to help the E&E conform to demanding health, safety and environmental requirements.
The guide addresses legislation requiring plastics and elastomers to be halogen-free and flame-retardant, produce low smoke emissions, be recyclable, and comply with the WEEE and RoHS Directives and REACH. It also outlines key standards and tests for E&E industry compliance, including IEC 60335 and UL 94 for the safety of electrical appliances, EN 45545 for railways and UL 746 for polymers used in electrical equipment.
