On 23rd November 2017, Shanghai, around 40 flame retardant manufacturers and users met to kick off a new regional organisation: pinfa China (Phosphorus Inorganic and Nitrogen Flame Retardants Association). The event also promoted non-halogenated flame retardants to a wider audience of regulators and media, with presentations delivered by pinfa Europe and pinfa North America and panel discussions.
pinfa has organised previous meetings in Asia in Taipei (Taiwan, see pinfa Newsletter n°13), Tokyo (Japan, n°21), Jeju Island (Korea, n°43) and Changchun (PRC, n°69). This launch responds to increasing production of flame retardants in China, and use by Chinese manufacturers in consumer and industrial products, and to a growing interest in more sustainable and environmentally friendly fire safety solutions. The meeting fixed PIN flame retardant development in China as an objective of a “green and beautiful” world. pinfa China initial activities may include a Chinese PINFA newsletter, Wechat forum and workshops. The need for a formal organisation and budget was established.
