The UK Smoke Control Association (SCA), representing companies and consultants in this sector, has input proposed changes to the currently underway review of the UK Building Regulations (Approved Document B), concerning smoke control installations. They recommend that prescriptions are modified to ensure appropriate design and installation of smoke control systems, that reference should be made to product standards such as EN12101. Levels of competence for designers and installers, and applicable standards or industry best practice documents should be clearly specified. SCA Chair David Mowatt underlines that the Regulations review should offer clearer guidance and improve safety.
