There are many manufacturers and manufacturing sites for non-halogenated flame retardants in Europe

Whereas there are 23 production sites for phosphorus, inorganic and nitrogen flame retardants (PIN FRs), there are only 4 sites for the production of chlorinated and / or brominated flame retardants. In addition, there are 2 sites which produce PIN FRs and chlorinated flame retardants. We estimate the workforce which is directly involved in production, marketing and sales of FRs in Europe to be around 5000 people, supplying into a downstream industry (e.g. formulators, compounders) of probably 10-fold size or more.

Brominated flame retardants are mainly produced outside of Europe, in the USA, Israel and Asia.
