EU consultation on housing policy
Open to 17th October: public consultation on EU Affordable Housing Plan: pinfa says it should strongly address fire safety. Most EU countries today face housing shortages and housing costs have increased considerably relative to household incomes. The consultation public questionnaire asks organisations about possible policies and obstacles to housing construction and availability, including (Q5 of section for organisations) whether making housing more energy efficient and sustainable will reduce affordability. pinfa will input to the public consultation underlining the need to ensure that housing is not only affordable but also safe, in particular social housing, where populations can be particularly vulnerable, coherent with the detailed input developed by the European Fire Safety Alliance (of which pinfa is a member). pinfa suggests that EU fire safety standards and test methods for building materials (e.g. cladding), furnishings, energy systems used in buildings (e.g. photovoltaics) will bring overall cost-efficiency, sustainability and lower housing fire and rehabilitation costs.
