Intumescent PIN FR coating without SVHC
Clariant (pinfa member) has launched an ammonium polyphosphate (APP) with <0.1% melamine for use in intumescent coatings. Melamine was added to the EU REACH list of Substances of Very High Concern SVHC in 2023. This does not concern melamine derivate PIN FRs, such as melamine cyanurate, if they contain <1% free melamine (see pinfa Newsletter n°160). The Clariant APP aims to provide a drop-in replacement for APP grades containing intentionally added melamine. APP is used in intumescent formulations for coatings, firestop seals and PIR insulation panels.
