pinfa: FRs, Circular Economy & regulation
pinfa poster at SETAC outlines the industry perspective for flame retardants, sustainability, recycling and regulation. Many different chemicals are used as flame retardants, to ensure essential safety of many products around us, in particular electrical and electronics. In Europe, the ECHA Regulatory Strategy for Flame Retardants (see pinfa Newsletter n°147) led to a first report on aromatic brominated FRs, as well as identifying some concerns and data gaps for non-halogenated FRs. pinfa has developed a roadmap to respond to this Strategy, has engaged in ‘Safe and Sustainable by Design’ (SSbD) case studies on PIN flame retardants, as well as a number of application tests on recycling and upcycling of different PIN FR polymers.
