UK first update of Furniture Fire Regulations
As announced in January (pinfa Newsletter n. 169), the UK has engaged a first update of the Furniture Fire Safety Regulations. This first update removes certain baby furniture products from the Regulations requirements (with the stated aim of reducing children’s exposure to flame retardants without compromising fire safety), removes the obligation to label furniture indicating conformity and extends the delay for legal proceedings so as to facilitate enforcement. The Government has announced that these proposed Regulation modifications have now been submitted to Parliament. The Government plans to present more fundamental changes to the Regulations this Autumn, with the objectives of maintaining fire safety, enabling innovation and the circular economy and reducing flame retardant use (pinfa Newsletter n°169).
