On 10 September 2026, pinfa hosted the webinar "From Evaluation to Transition: The HEFESTOS Hub for Substitution of Brominated Flame Retardants".
The session featured María Expósito Delgado (AIMPLAS), from the HEFESTOS project.
Fire safety remains vital across many polymer applications, while Europe’s transition towards safer and more sustainable materials is creating new challenges and opportunities for the flame retardant value chain.
The webinar explored the HEFESTOS project, which supports this transition by bringing stakeholders together to assess and advance alternatives to brominated flame retardants, combining technical evaluation with cooperation across industry, research and policy.
María Expósito Delgado introduced the HEFESTOS project, its objectives and stakeholder cooperation model, as well as current EU-level work on alternative flame-retardant solutions. She also examined how fire safety, sustainability and competitiveness can be considered together in the transition towards safer materials.
The recording and presentation are now available, offering practical insights into the development of alternative flame-retardant solutions and the role of cooperation across the value chain in supporting safe, sustainable and competitive materials.
